Systems is the third: slides, leveling, generator, 12 volt and 120 volt circuits traced through a damage zone. Refinish is last, because paint is the only step you cannot undo without starting over.

A typical intake looks like this. An owner brings in a coach with a scraped driver side from a gas station canopy or a tight campground turn. The visible damage is one panel. Once the skin comes off, the aluminum tube behind it is bent, the slide opening above it has moved a quarter inch out of square, and the roof-to-sidewall seam has opened at the corner. That is three repairs, not one, and finding it on day three instead of month six is the entire value of a teardown.

We also take on planned work that has nothing to do with a collision. ## Where Motorhomes Fail First and Why

The third is chassis-driven. A motorhome frame carries a house that acts like a long, hollow beam. When the rails deflect from an impact, an overloaded rear overhang or years of bad weight distribution, the house telegraphs it. Doors that stop latching, a windshield that cracks for no obvious reason, and a slide that binds on one corner only are all chassis symptoms presented as house complaints.

- **Roof-to-sidewall seam:** The single most common water path on any coach. The sealant bead at that termination outlives its flexibility around year seven and opens under thermal cycling long before the membrane itself fails.
- **Delamination bubbling:** Fiberglass separates from its luan and foam substrate once water reaches the core. The bubble spreads outward from the wet spot over months. Pressing the wall and hearing a hollow tap means the substrate is already gone.
- **Cap crazing and cracking:** Front and rear fiberglass caps flex with chassis twist. Stress cracks radiate from mounting points, marker light cutouts and the ladder mount. Filling them without addressing the flex means they come back in one season.
- **Slide seal compression loss:** Wiper and bulb seals take a set and stop returning. Combined with an opening that has rounded slightly, you get intermittent leaks that only show up in wind-driven rain, which makes them very hard to chase.
- **Subfloor rot at slide sills:** Water that enters at a slide runs into the floor sandwich and sits on the bottom skin. By the time the floor feels soft underfoot, the joists and the lower luan layer are usually already compromised.

## How Chassis Type Changes the Repair Plan

People talk about motorhomes by letter class, but the repair plan is driven by what is under the house. A Ford F53 gas chassis puts the engine ahead of the front axle with the radiator up front and a doghouse inside the cab. A Freightliner XCR or Spartan K2 raised rail diesel puts the engine at the back, the radiator on the side, and gives you a straight rail section with far more room to pull and section. Those two coaches can wear identical bodies and need completely different front-end repair approaches.

Cutaway chassis under Class C and Super C coaches add a different problem. The cab is a factory-built steel structure and the house is a separately built box bonded and bolted behind it. The seam between them takes every bit of relative movement between two structures that expand and flex at different rates. Front-end impacts on a Class C almost always damage that seam even when the cabover fiberglass looks intact.

Bus conversions and Prevost-based coaches are monocoque. There are no separate rails to pull in the conventional sense, because the shell itself is the structure. Correcting one means working the shell back to spec with the interior out of the way, which is why those jobs carry the labor hours they do.

- **Front engine gas, Ford F53 and Chevy:** Radiator, steering and engine all live inside the front crush zone. Even a moderate front hit typically means cooling, steering linkage and cap work together rather than cap work alone.
- **Raised rail diesel pusher:** Spartan and Freightliner rails give clean access for measurement and sectioning. The rear becomes the vulnerable end instead, with the engine, radiator and charge air cooler stacked behind the rear axle.
- **Cutaway chassis, Class C and Super C:** The cab-to-house seam is the load path. It is where cabover leaks start, where structural separation shows up after an impact, and where a proper repair means pulling the shell rather than sealing the crack.
- **Monocoque bus shells:** The body is the frame. Correction requires interior removal and shell work rather than rail pulling, and panel replacement has to respect the structural role each section plays.

## How Motorhome Claims Get Underpaid and How We Prevent It

The pattern is consistent. An adjuster writes the visible damage from photographs. The number looks reasonable for what is in the picture. Work starts, the skin comes off, and the actual scope is two or three times the first estimate. Now the shop needs a supplement, and how well that supplement is documented determines whether the owner gets a proper repair or a patched one.

We invert the order. Teardown happens before the plan is finalized, not after approval. Panels come off the damage zone, the structure is photographed under controlled light, measurements are recorded against factory specification, and part sourcing quotes are attached. The adjuster receives one package with evidence rather than a phone call asking for more money. That is not adversarial and it is not a tactic. It just removes the argument.

We bill direct with every major carrier and we will tell you plainly when insurance-negotiated labor rates differ from our posted retail rates. On the estimate side, an RV systems estimate is $150 and that amount is credited back against the repair. Diagnostic work is billed at one hour minimum at $285 per hour, also credited back. - **Teardown before plan:** The damage zone is opened and documented before we write the final repair plan, so the number that goes to your carrier reflects the actual structure rather than what was visible from ten feet away.
- **Documented supplements:** When hidden damage surfaces mid-repair, the supplement goes out with photographs, measurements and sourcing quotes attached. We handle the correspondence directly rather than asking you to relay it.
- **Aftermarket value itemization:** Solar arrays, lithium banks, custom cabinetry, satellite systems and off-grid build-outs get itemized and valued separately. Left off the estimate, they are simply written out of the settlement.
- **Shop choice is yours:** In California your carrier can recommend a direct repair program facility but cannot require one. If the recommended shop has never pulled a laminated sidewall, that is a fair reason to choose otherwise.

## What Motorhome Repair Costs and How Long It Takes

Labor is posted. Body and paint is $210 per hour. Mechanical and electrical is $260 per hour. Diagnostics is $285 per hour with a one hour minimum, credited back against the repair. Detail is $95 per hour. Those rates are the same whether you are paying out of pocket or a carrier is, though carrier-negotiated rates on insurance work may differ and we will explain that before you authorize anything.

The calendar is driven by two things we do not control: carrier approval speed and parts availability. A front cap for a discontinued model year can sit on backorder for three months. What we do control is that teardown, documentation and supplement submission all happen in week one rather than week four, which is usually where weeks get lost.

Ranges below are what the work actually runs. A minor cosmetic panel repair is one to two weeks in the shop. Moderate multi-panel collision with blending is three to six weeks. Major structural work with cap replacement is eight to twenty weeks and is almost always parts-gated rather than labor-gated. You get a written completion date at authorization and an updated one whenever it moves.

## Getting a San Clemente Coach Up to Yorba Linda

## Process

1. **Intake and walkthrough** (Day 1). Drive in or tow in to Yorba Linda. We walk the coach with you and separate what is visible from what we expect to find once panels come off.
